Recently I got a DJI Phantom 3 drone. Near where I live in Essex is an old Castle that has been left in ruins for many years. The area is perfect for flying, as there isn't too much to get in the way. Hadleigh Castle has one turret that barely still stands. As a test I thought it would be interesting to try and capture the turret in 360 and attempt to do some photogrammetry. Using 3DF Zephyr, I was able to process the video I took into a data set that Zephyr was able to then process. The point cloud I got was a bit messy, but through trial and error I was able to get something that resembled the castle. To retain some of the details I had to go through a process of baking the texture Zephyr output back onto a properly UVed mesh. After that I took that mesh and converted the texture into a height map so to speak. In Blender I then used Displacement to project the brick details back into the mesh. The total polygon count ended up being close to 27 million polygons!
